Pets travelling in the hold as accompanied baggage or as cargo will need to travel in an IATA approved travel crate.
Here is our handy IATA pet crate calculator to work out what size travel crate you need.
For pets travelling in the cabin with you, a soft bag is recommended, you can find these on our store.
If you are buying a crate off-the-shelf please note that all openings of the kennel must be nose and paw proof to avoid injury to the animal. For dogs the openings must be a maximum of 25 mm x 25mm and for cats the opening must be a maximum of 19 mm x 19 mm. Any welded mesh used for openings must be 2.5 mm (or thicker) for dogs and 2 mm (or thicker) for cats. The total ventilated area must be at least 16% of the total surface of the four sides.
If your dog is a strong breed or is likely to try to get out of the crate (please see our article on proper familiarisation) then you will want to consider a custom reinforced crate for their own safety.
Please note that airlines set their own policies around crate size so always check with the airline or your pet travel consultant for the latest rules.
