Moving pets from the UK to Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Congratulations, you're joining a lot of expats who have made the move from the UK to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another of our beautiful 7 emirates.

There will be so much to think about and high on that list will be how to take your pets. If you have a pet that isn't a dog or cat then there will be extra considerations but for now let's look at the most common pets that we transport from the UK.

UAE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DOGS FROM THE UK

  • Microchip inserted prior to vaccination
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Canine distemper virus vaccine
  • Canine parvovirus vaccine
  • Infectious canine hepatitis vaccine
  • Leptospirosis vaccine

UAE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR CATS FROM THE UK

  • Microchip inserted prior to vaccination
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Feline Pan Leukcopenia vaccine
  • Feline Rhinotracheitis vaccine
  • Feline Calicivirus vaccine

Don't get caught out - if your pets were vaccinated outside of the UK then they may need a rabies titre test, ask a relocation specialist if you're not sure. There is also a wait period for different vaccines until they are considered "valid". If in doubt send us a copy of the vaccine records and we can check.

The department in the UK who looks after export paperwork is called the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs or DEFRA. To export from the UK an Official Veterinarian or OV must sign off the paperwork but be careful, not all vets in the UK are OVs. We have a network of partners in the UK, including agents with OVs onsite and independent "travel vets" who can help with travel paperwork for your pets.
